On Behalf of | Jun 27, 2023 | Motorcycle Accidents |

Every year motorcyclists in the Seattle area are seriously injured or killed in a motorcycle crash. Although riding a motorcycle is an enjoyable hobby for many, it comes with serious risks and motorcyclists face many dangers on the road.

There are many causes of motorcycle accidents, but there are also times of the day and year when motorcycle accidents are most likely to occur.

The highest month for motorcycle accidents

According to a recent article, August is the most dangerous month for motorcycle accidents. Approximately 14% of all motorcycle accidents happen in August, compared to only 3% in January.

While there is no known cause for the extreme rise in motorcycle accidents in August, it could be because there is better weather in the summer which means more motorcycles and other vehicles on the roads.

Weekdays and weekends

Motorcycle accidents are also more likely to occur between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays and between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends. The earlier hours on weekdays may be because of commuting.

If you are a motorcyclist, you can do your best to avoid a motorcycle accident by being especially careful during these times.

Avoiding a motorcycle accident

Additionally, be sure to always wear a helmet, make sure your motorcycle is in good working condition and avoid speeding. Do not ride your motorcycle when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

These are common factors involved in many motorcycle accidents. Another common cause is other drivers not seeing you on the road or engaging in poor driving behavior themselves.

The aftermath of a motorcycle accident

Recovering from a motorcycle accident can be painful and take a long time. You may be out of work and off your feet entirely while you recover.

A personal injury claim could mean compensation for these or other losses, but that means proving negligence. It is important to learn about your options from a professional.
