Winter driving conditions can lead to serious injuries

On Behalf of | Oct 19, 2023 | Personal Injury |

Winter will be here soon, bringing with it dangerous driving conditions. Winter weather can lead to serious accidents, causing injuries to both drivers and passengers.

Common accidents

One of the most common accidents happens when a driver travels too fast for the winter conditions and loses control of their vehicle. This can cause them to skid or spin into other cars. Also, drivers who do not leave enough distance between them and the driver in front of them can cause a rear-end collision because they can’t stop fast enough on the snow or ice.

It can be difficult for drivers to have traction on snow and ice. This can cause a serious accident if they travel through an intersection, past a stop sign, or through a red light because their brakes fail to stop their car.

Injuries and compensation

Winter driving accidents can cause whiplash, where the head and neck are forced back and forth, fractures and broken bones and injuries to the muscles or other soft tissue.

In high impact accidents, drivers and passengers can suffer a traumatic brain injury or a spinal cord injury, which can have life-long effects. In addition to physical injuries, accidents can cause the driver or passenger to have long lasting trauma.

An injured driver or passenger may want to seek compensation to pay for medical bills, which can be extensive if they need to be hospitalized, require physical therapy or surgery. They can also request compensation for lost wages, pain and suffering and to replace or repair the damaged vehicle.
